The resort offers vacationers a wide choice of lakeside accommodations the historic Scandinavian lodge, hand-crafted log cabins, luxury condos & sea-side villas. The Lodge houses a casual fine-dining lakeside rsstaurant with a Wine Spectator Magazine award for its wine list, a pub, pool/whirlpool/sauna complex and banquet & meeting space for group events. The National Geographic Traveler Magazine chose Lutsen Resort of its "Stay List" for its commitment to a "sense of place", stewardship and community.

Our History

Minnesota’s oldest resort, Lutsen Resort, traces its roots to 1885 when the rugged natural beauty of Lake Superior’s North Shore prompted Charles Axel Nelson, a young Swedish immigrant who was a commercial fisherman plying the shore, to establish his homestead overlooking the lake. He called it "Lutsen."

Lutsen began to attract visitors who came to enjoy the rustic wilderness setting. Known as a friendly haven for weary travelers, the family home evolved into one of Minnesota's favorite destinations.

Meet Your Hosts

In 1988, the Nelson family sold the resort to husband & wife, Scott Harrison & Nancy Burns, whose roots in northeastern Minnesota go back four generations. You will find the tradition of warm hospitality with a Scandinavian flavor continues today.
